Elmering and Mentorship
In amateur radio, an “Elmer” is a mentor who helps a newcomer find their footing. One of the best ways to honour the legacy of experienced operators is by helping newcomers succeed — so mentorship sits at the core of ARLOW.
We are committed to:
- Mentoring newly licensed operators through their first steps
- Assisting with radio programming and station setup
- Providing technical guidance for antennas and repeaters
- Encouraging active participation on local repeaters
- Helping operators explore new modes and technologies

The Advantages of 224.800 MHz
Operating at approximately 220 MHz, the 1.25-meter band combines the strengths of both VHF and UHF communications:
